There's a huge variety of dog collars available to buy in numerous different sizes. You'll see from our selection of pink dog collars that they normally have a width and a length. Here's a quick guide to measuring your dog's neck and choosing the right size collar.
Measuring your dog's neck
Your best best is to use a measuring tape - it's the easiest way. If you don't have one, you can always use a piece of string and then measure that on a ruler or yard stick.
- Place the tape or string around your dog's neck
- Ensure the tape or string is snug but not tight
- Allow enough room to be able to fit between the tape and your dog's neck
- Take the measurement from the tape or read the string's length against a ruler or yard stick
This is the size of the collar you should buy.
Remember...
Most dog collars are adjustable so there's room for a bit of error but it's important to be pretty acurrate nonetheless. A dog collar that's too tight is dangerous and one that is too loose may get snagged easily.
Remember to check that your dog's collar still fits from time to time as their size may change, especially if your puppy or dog is still growing!
Remember to convert your measurement if you have measured in centimetres and the dog collar you are interested in is in inches, and vice versa.
